What a year! Here's a summary of 2022:

Our Work:

We’ve taken on another four NHS contracts over the year with another one due to start next week for the Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust which we are hugely excited about!

Other bookings continue to increase across employment, events, conferences and many other areas. We enjoy providing our fellow like-minded organisations and individuals especially other social enterprises, politics and anyone who wants to support our delivery of great quality interpreting services.

Also in April, Romy joined us to support the bookings team and she has been a great hit with interpreters and users alike!

Our Community:

We’ve had many meetings with users and interpreters and other communication professionals and will be looking forward to more of these in the new year. It‘s always a pleasure to celebrate our successes or talk about solving problems as a collective. We have such a sense of community and of working together to achieve change and as a cooperative, it is what makes us unique!

In June, Olive joined us as Outreach and Membership Worker and has been on many visits. She has really strengthened our connection to the wider Deaf community, and we’ve gained many new members as a result. We’ve collected really useful feedback about our video interpreting service and platform too, and we constantly work to make sure we make the feedback a reality so that the tech we provide suits and benefits all users: customers, Deaf users and professionals.

Highlights have been attending local Deaf events including at Merseyside Society for Deaf People, other Deaf clubs and centres in the North West, Deaf Active and the BDA (British Deaf Association) AGM in Preston.

Our Tech:

The video interpreting service is being used by more Deaf users to call their GP or attend last minute or emergency NHS appointments and it really is a joy to provide this flexibility of access alongside our face to face provision. We are committed to face to face (what the Deaf community wants) and as one of only a few businesses who can provide both it makes us committed to access, committed to the community, with the flexibility to provide a seamless service and with the ability to fill in gaps in provision such as a 24/7 service. All from one organisation with a great community vision.

As a platform co-op creating tech for the community, our platform is the hub of what we do and we’re making huge leaps in what we can do. Let’s just say, 2023 is going to be an exciting year!

Our Supporters:

We could not do the huge amount of impactful work we do without some extra support. This year that includes: the Social Enterprise Support Fund, the School of Social Entrepreneurs with a pilot programme with Teneo, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and it’s excellent coaches, and we’ve just found out we’ve been successful with another bid, which we are delighted about. More on that in 2023.

Huge thanks goes to Nicky Evans, Geraldine O’Halloran and Sarah Hannett for their support in 2022 and contributions to the co-op’s work.

And to every single person and organisation who has contributed to our success this year: our hard-working staff, our committed members — both Deaf users and Worker members, the board, our customers, our contract staff and commissioners, and other interpreters and communication professionals who work for us, other supporters, funders and anyone who shares our social media posts and generally helps to get the word out about the work that we love doing.
